What is Paralysis?

Paralysis is the weakness or loss of control over muscles in one or several parts of the body due to in malfunction of the nervous system. It may interfere with movement, speech, and sensation. Paraplegia: Paraplegia refers to Paralysis of the lower half of the body, encompassing both legs. It is frequently the result of spinal cord injuries, which impair movement and sensation below the injury site.

Quadriplegia, or tetraplegia, affects all four limbs and the torso. It can be caused by spinal cord injuries in the neck area or severe neurological disorders, such as hypokalemic periodic Paralysis, which can cause weakness in muscles or Paralysis due to low potassium levels.

Locked-in Syndrome: This rare condition leads to total Paralysis of all voluntary muscles except those controlling eye movement. Patients remain fully aware but are unable to move or speak.
