What is Involved in a Takradhara Session?
Before the treatment is started, the patient is anointed with medicated oil according to their disease. A cloth strap is then tied across the forehead to prevent the medicated buttermilk from going into the eyes.
Before starting the procedure, the patient is asked to lie down in the supine position with the head slightly bent backwards in the droni (trough). The dhara pot is suspended in the dhara stand, which is placed at the head end of the droni.
The medicated mixture, Takra, is poured over the forehead in a controlled, continuous stream through a hole of the dhara pot. The head is simultaneously massaged with the therapist’s free pam for better effect. The maximum duration of the procedure is ninety minutes, and is done for twenty-one days.
