What is Anal Fistula?
An Anal fistula is described as a small defective tube or tract. This defect is usually present between the end of the bowel and the periphery at the opening of the bottom, which is referred to as the anus. The usual reason for this abnormal condition is an area of infection of the tissue around the anus, which creates a collection of pus which is called an abscess. When this pus is disposed of, and the pus cavity has developed and drained, a tiny channel or a small opening may remain.
What are the causes of Fistula in Ano?
Abnormalities within the anorectal region and other connected organs cause a fistula in Ano.
Anal Abscess: This is the most common form of fistula in patients. It develops after the drainage and healing of the infected cavity located in the anal glands lying in the periphery of the anus and rectum.
Infections: An infection in the anal area, secondarily caused by water and germs, can result in the development of an anal fistula.
Crohn's Disease: Crohn's disease occurs when certain parts of the digested system are inflamed and have ulcerations. In some instances, such inflammation induces a fistulous opening towards the periphery.
Past Surgery: Any injury sustained by the person or surgical procedures on or around the rectum can result in sinuses or leakage from the region later.
Symptoms

A burning or itching sensation may accompany swelling or pain around the anal region.

Foul smelly pus or even blood from an opening on the skin around the anus.
Bowel Inconsistence
In some cases, one might experience difficulty in controlling bowel movements.
Skin Itching
Soreness, redness, and itchiness can occur around the anus.

FAQs
Anal Fistula or Fistula in Ano is an abnormal passageway connecting two skin-closed body parts, use, and the skin (fistula in ano), which leads to pain, pus or discharge, and infection.
Other types of fistulas are Anal Fistula, Vesicovaginal Fistula, Tracheoesophageal Fistula, Enterocutaneous Fistula, Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula, and Dialysis Fistula.
Cassia fistula, or Amaltas as it is commonly known in Ayurveda, is one of the main components of this medicine because of its cathartic solid and anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it a very effective treatment for fistulas. It flushes the digestive system and removes toxins that can exacerbate the situation. This herb is so great that it can help the body heal as part of an overall treatment.
Fistulas are of different shapes, and Ayurveda has various treatments for each.
Arteriovenous Fistula (AV Fistula): All Ayurvedic treatments are for circulation and inflammation. They usually prescribe Herbal medicines like Ashwagandha and Guggulu.
Vesicovaginal Fistula: This condition affects the urinary and vaginal tracts. Some Ayurvedic remedies for VVF(vesicovaginal fistula) include Shatavari and Punarnava, which are herbs that are very helpful for reproductive and urinary health.
Symptoms usually include tenderness or pain, swelling or the presence of pus or blood from the anus and recurrent development of abscesses.
The most common reasons are Anal abscesses, chronic infection or as a complication of Crohn's disease or injury to the Anal area.
Anal Fistula can be treated with mild herbal medicines, Kshar Sutra therapy, and dietary modifications that will help remove toxins from the body and support the healing process.
The Kshar Sutra is an advanced Ayurvedic technique that involves gradually cutting and healing the Fistula tract with a medicated thread.
Yes, some conditions, such as Kshar Sutra for Anal Fistula treatment, are Ayurveda-based advanced therapies that do not use surgery to cure the Fistula.
- The treatment duration depends on the disease stage and how well the patient follows experts' suggestions.
- Can Anal Fistula come back after Ayurvedic treatment?
